THE ONE ARMED COWBOY
By J.D. Sylvester

“He’s just a one-armed cowboy”

I hear it all the time

I think they even enjoy

Saying I’m Past my prime
They laugh when I ask for a hand

When doing certain chores

They say “ I saddled mine and well

Let’s see you saddle yours”
It makes me try all the harder

To hold up my end

Oh, I wish I had a pardner

Maybe another one-armed friend
Someone who wouldn’t make fun

Of the way I handle things

Together, we could get things done

In spite of my failings
But then they’d probably say

That I should ought to quit

If it takes two to earn my pay

Maybe I couldn’t handle it
Well the boss knows I can

In all my years I’ve known

I’m as good as any man

Once I put my coffee down
